A Green-Style Mother’s Day
Let’s face it – whether we’re human beings or sea turtles, we love our mothers. With Mother’s Day just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about that special way to show Mom you care. Here are just a few ways you can give her a Mother’s Day she’ll never forget while staying environmentally friendly!
Adopt a sea turtle
Give a gift that keeps on giving by adopting a sea turtle at Loggerhead Marinelife Center! With $35, $50, $75 and $100 levels, you can adopt a sea turtle and receive an official certificate, educational materials, photos, updates on your turtle’s progress and more. To adopt, visit marinelife.org/adopt.
Create a homemade gift
Using common household items to make a gift is a great way to give a unique gift that shows Mom you’re thankful for everything she does. Best of all, you’ll “go green” while doing it. Make a candle out of wax and essential oils from your local store, or put together a scrapbook decorated with photos and reusable items like newspaper or ticket stubs.
Buy local
For Mother’s Day, why not buy locally-grown flowers to give to your mother? It’s a great way to support local businesses. When you support your local business, you’re helping build your own community. Plus, you’ll be able to give your mother a beautiful gift.
Cook organically
Show your mother you care about her health by cooking her a healthy organic meal! Buy locally-grown veggies, fruits, and free-range beef or chicken and get creative. There are great recipes online to choose from. Get cooking!
Bring her outside
Quality time is important in any relationship – and for your mom, sometimes “being” together is the best gift you can give. Take her for a walk at your local park or to your favorite garden or beach for an afternoon of fun and fresh air.
