We are happy to report that we closed out our week on a good note: finding a leatherback! After a quiet week, our team was excited to spot another turtle. The turtle was found just before 3 am on north Juno Beach and was previously tagged. Gertrude was originally tagged by LMC researchers in 2012 and was spotted nesting twice in that year. Her two nests in 2012 were also laid on Juno Beach. The turtle looked very healthy and grew almost 1 cm since we last saw her, measuring just under 154 cm in length.
We are hoping for better luck with the leatherbacks next week. At the very least, the weather forecast looks a little better than it was this past week! Keep checking back with us for updates!
