Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa and the Sea Turtle Hospital at Loggerhead Marinelife Center announce Eau-phelia the sea turtle’s release on July 2
The iconic Forbes Five-Star oceanfront retreat Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa and the Sea Turtle Hospital at Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC) continue their community partnership – all to better protect Palm Beach’s beautiful beaches that attract guests – and sea turtles – from around the globe. This time, all will gather together at Eau Palm Beach’s ocean-front resort, on Tuesday, July 2 at 10 a.m., to say farewell to Eau-phelia the sea turtle when she makes her way back to her ocean home after being rehabilitated at LMC.

In honor of Eau Palm Beach’s generous support of the Center, LMC named a loggerhead sea turtle patient “Eau-phelia.” With a name like Eau, which is pronounced “O” (French for “water”), and the Atlantic Ocean on their doorstep, Eau Palm Beach has shown its commitment to ocean conservation and dedication to LMC’s mission, including innovative conservation measures such as replacing plastic straws for chic yellow and white paper straws in their pool deck area. Straws are a leading cause of harm for marine life worldwide.

Eau-phelia is a sub-adult loggerhead sea turtle patient whose bloodwork on arrival at LMC indicated anemia and hypoglycemia. Eau-phelia was underweight and in poor health overall due to chronic debilitation. The turtle was put into freshwater to remove barnacles and other epibiota that covered her body. The turtle was treated with fluids, antibiotics and andiron. Hospital staff closely monitored the turtle with routine bloodwork as it was being treated.
Eau-phelia will be released at Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa (100 South Ocean Blvd., Manalapan, FL) at 10 a.m. LMC hospital-staff will be on hand to answer guest’s questions on the sea turtle’s journey from rescue to release. As a reminder, for members of the public who wish to attend the release on Tuesday, we kindly ask that they park at the Lantana Beach Parking Lot located just north of the hotel. There is quick and easy access to the beach from the parking lot.
Eau-phelia will be fitted with a satellite transmitter, allowing LMC’s research laboratory and website visitors to digitally track the turtle’s migration and offshore behaviors.
