Texas RPI Update

The Responsible Pier Initiative (RPI) is a collaborative program that works with local sea turtle rescue organizations and recreational anglers to provide them with the tools and training to rescue sea turtles that are accidentally hooked or entangled on fishing piers.

With over 68 partner piers in five states and Puerto Rico, this program has successfully rescued more than 600 sea turtles from fishing piers to date, since 2013.

In February, Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s (LMC) conservation coordinator traveled to Texas to attend the Southeast Regional Sea Turtle Network Meeting. The trip allowed an in-person visit with our Texas RPI partners in Galveston and Corpus Christi who work hard to make the program successful in Texas!

A HUGE thanks to Turtle Island Restoration Network (TIRN) and the Texas Sealife Center for all they do for sea turtle conservation. Our extended gratitude, as well, for coordinating the Responsible Pier Initiative on Texas’ fishing piers!
