Earhart is a subadult loggerhead sea turtle patient that was found at FPL’s St. Lucie site in August. The patient’s bloodwork upon arrival indicated anemia and hypoglycemia. Radiographs also revealed an intestinal impaction with a large amount of crab shells. Earhart was underweight and in poor health overall due to chronic debilitation. The turtle was put into freshwater to remove the barnacles, leeches, and other epibiota that covered its body. Earhart also received fluids and antibiotics, and was closely monitored by our hospital staff with routine bloodwork during the turtle's stay.
