Marine Science & Conservation Education High School Internship

Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC) is now accepting high school internship applications for spring, summer and fall semesters to assist LMC’s education team with the scientific communication of our research, rehabilitation and conservation teams. Enthusiastic and passionate individuals who enjoy communicating scientific knowledge to the general public are encouraged to apply. Internship responsibilities include:

– Assisting with teaching educational conservation programming at LMC
– Assisting in the design of new, innovative and mission-centric programming
– Monitoring and communicating inventory needs for more than 20 various programs
– Coordinating the volunteer community Donation Station, repurposing of recycled material donations for various crafts and campus events
– Maintaining relationships with LMC volunteers and LMC staff members involved with programming
– Educating guests on current sea turtle patients, their reason for admission into the Sea Turtle Hospital at LMC and conservation tips
– Daily tasks including creating education materials and content for monthly eNewsletter, monthly programs calendar and program social media content.
– Completion of a group intern project to be determined within the first three weeks of hire. Education staff will assist with the program scope, direction and reach. The project objectives include the following:
– Learn how to successfully design and structure one complete educational program
– Share their lesson at local Palm Beach County schools with students in the classroom
– Present their findings and data collection to LMC staff and volunteers at the end of their internship
– Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
– Must be currently enrolled in high school or home school equivalent grade level (9 – 12)
– Available to commit to one weekend day per week for minimum of 12 weeks (after school and after hours shifts available as needed)
– Desire to spread awareness of marine science education through interactive and educational programming
– Comfortable speaking with the general public and with people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds
– Self-motivated and willing to learn
