Tour FAQs
What kinds of trips are offered and what are they like?
Destination Eco Tours are all-inclusive domestic and international trips that include your airfare from a pre-determined airport (see specific itineraries for details). Trip durations range from 7 – 14 days with all room, board, meals, and flights included. Each tour is centered around a conservation project that aims to assist a non-profit organization with volunteer and financial aid. For all Destination Eco Tours, a percentage of each guests registration costs are donated to the project.
Service Excursions are locally-based trips that include all room, board and meals, but do not include airfare and are typically shorter in duration. Trip durations range from 2 – 5 days and are focused on a specific conservation project. These trips include all necessary training required to participate in the project and give guests an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in their local environment.
Am I a good candidate for a SWIM Eco Tour?
SWIM Eco Tours are designed for active adults that have moderate experience in general outdoor activity. Since most of our projects involve a bit of physical labor, we suggest considering the following guidelines before registering for a trip:
- Be able to comfortably lift 40 lbs (18 kg)
- Be able to swim
What is your maximum group size?
All SWIM programs are limited to 12 guests unless otherwise stated in the program details.
Is there an age restriction on eco tours?
All SWIM participants must be 18 or older.
Who are your guides?
SWIM guides are trained biologists, conservationists and experienced naturalists that are dedicated to showing you the beauty of our planet! Your guide is guaranteed to have extensive knowledge in marine science and ocean conservation – and be dying to share it with you!
What if I have food preferences or allergies?
On your reservation form, indicate any food preferences or allergies in the Additional Comments box so we can be sure to plan your included meals accordingly. Please note: if you have a severe allergy, please indicate the severity and any emergency treatment supplies you will be bringing with you on your trip.
What are my responsibilities/obligations as a trip member?
Upon making your reservation, you must agree to the terms and conditions, acknowledging you have read and agreed to accept the contents of the Participant Responsibilities form.
Registration FAQs
Are there additional fees for solo travelers?
Depending on the eco tour, single occupancy additional fees may apply. Most of our tours are priced based on double occupancy. See specific itineraries for detailed information on pricing, including single occupancy fees. If you don’t mind sharing your accommodations with another solo traveler, please indicate on your registration form. If there are other solo travelers, we may be able to pair you up and save you some cash!
Do I have to be an LMC member to go on your trips?
No. One of the goals of the SWIM Eco Tour program is to offer a unique opportunity to participate in ocean conservation projects to interested participants of all backgrounds and countries. Although (link) being a member (/link) with us has all kinds of awesome perks, it’s not required!
Can I give a trip as a gift?
Yes. We think it’s awesome that you care about marine life and another person that much! Please indicate on your registration form that the trip is a gift. Be sure to enter the recipient’s full personal details for flight booking purposes or else their flights will be booked under your name and they will not be permitted to board their flights.
How do I register for an eco tour?
Registration for any SWIM program must be done online at www.marinelife.org/SWIM. If you do not have access to a computer or the internet, please contact Hannah Campbell, Programs Coordinator, at 561-627-8280 x105 for assistance.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We can only accept credit or debit card payment for online booking.
What is your refund policy?
This cancelation policy applies to the date of registration, not the date your payment was processed.
Notice: More than 120 days – No fee
Notice: 120 days – 50% fee
Notice: 90 days – 100% fee
Fees cover the cost of flight purchase. No refunds are issued less than three months to the tour departure date.
What if Loggerhead Marinelife Center cancels my trip?
In the event that we must cancel your trip due to unforeseen circumstances, you will receive a full refund. In any case, LMC is not responsible for additional expenses incurred by the guest in preparing for the trip (e.g., non-refundable air tickets, visa fees if applicable, gear or medical expenses).
What if my trip doesn’t have enough participants?
Your credit card will not be charged the amount of the trip until there are enough participants confirmed. If the minimum capacity is not met for your trip, we will notify you once the registration deadline passes.
What is included in the trip price?
For a complete list of what amenities are included in your trip, please see the overview itinerary of the trip you are interested in. The detailed itinerary will further break down what is included for you.

Preparation FAQs
What do I need to bring?
Great question! We want you to be well-prepared for your trip so you are as comfortable and equipped as possible for each task at hand (even if it’s sipping mai tais), that’s why we have put together detailed packing lists for each eco tour. Detailed packing lists can be found on the main page of the specific tour you are interested in booking.
Do I need a passport?
If the eco tour takes place outside of your home country, then yes. All US citizens traveling to other countries are required to have a valid passport. Many of our trips take place in countries that also require US citizens to carry a travel visa. If your trip requires a visa, information will be included in your pre-departure materials, but ultimately it is your responsibility to abide by and plan for passport and visa requirements prior to your tour. Keep in mind an American passport must be valid for more than 6 months prior to entering many countries.
Do I need travel insurance?
Travel insurance is highly recommended for all SWIM eco tour participants.
What sort of confirmation will I receive?
You will receive a reservation confirmation within 48 hours of submitting your registration form to confirm we have received your request. Once the minimum participant requirement has been fulfilled, your payment will be processed and you will receive a final registration confirmation within 48 hours.
How do I know where to find my guide at the destination airport?
Your final registration confirmation will contain tour-specific instructions on where and when to meet your guide. Guide contact information will be included with your confirmation and we suggest programming the given contact numbers in your phone for use.
