Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s inaugural month-long Tour de Trash began in 2021, an initiative to clean several ocean fronts along South Florida’s coast. The Center's greatest beach cleanup effort to date welcomed helping hands to collect debris on our beaches.
Throughout the Tour de Trash Initiative, participants listened to stimulating conversations on ocean conservation and joined in demonstrations that repurpose ocean plastic to give trash a second life via solar-powered machines. Our conservation dive team also conducted underwater pier cleanups at partnering RPI pier locations to remove derelict fishing fear which can pose an entanglement threat to marine life.
To date, we have removed 3,137.58 lbs through our Tour de Trash initiative.
The Tour de Trash is funded in part by the Ocean Conservancy's Small Grants Program.
