Unwrap The Waves

Loggerhead Marinelife Center's Unwrap the Wave Initiative allows for students and community members to get into the "spirit" of conservation by collecting their candy wrappers from Halloween and recycling them.

Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa and the Sea Turtle Hospital at Loggerhead Marinelife Center announce community partnership for ocean conservation

Nick Gold, Eau’s PR director, and Jack E. Lighton, LMC’s president & CEO, enjoy a glass of Lagerhead at Breeze Ocean Kitchen with LMC’s mascot Fletch.

The iconic Forbes Five-Star oceanfront retreat Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa and the Sea Turtle Hospital at Loggerhead Marinelife Center have teamed up to form a new community partnership – all to better protect Palm Beach’s glistening beaches that attract guests – and sea turtles – from around the globe.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Sea Turtle Hospital at Loggerhead Marinelife Center,” said Michael King, Eau’s chief operating officer and general manager.”

Eau Palm Beach guests will enjoy the following special offerings due to this partnership:

  • The resort’s alfresco dining spot Breeze Ocean Kitchen offers locally-produced Due South Brewery’s “Lagerhead” Beer (A portion of beer sales will be donated back to LMC)
  • Club Level guests can enjoy educational sea turtle programs in January, February and March (leading up to nesting season)

“The Center does outstanding work in sea turtle and ocean conservation, and we are excited to support them in this way while also educating our guests about turtles, added King.”

“We are so grateful to partner with the world-class Eau Palm Beach,” said Jack E. Lighton, LMC president & CEO. “The beaches here in Palm Beach County are among the most pristine in the world, attracting visitors and sea turtles to enjoy Florida’s magnificent coastline. Our partnership will help raise more awareness about the importance of coastal conservation. After all, the sea turtle tells us the health of the ocean; the ocean tells us the health of the planet.”

In honor of Eau Palm Beach’s generous support of the Center, LMC named a loggerhead sea turtle patient “Eau-tis.” With a name like Eau, which is pronounced “O” (French for “water”), and the Atlantic Ocean on their doorstep, Eau Palm Beach has shown its commitment to ocean conservation and dedication to LMC’s mission, including innovative conservation measures such as replacing plastic straws for chic yellow and white paper straws in their pool deck area.  Straws are a leading cause of harm for marine life worldwide.

Eau-tis was found in the Intracoastal Waterway in Jupiter. Initial bloodwork showed anemia, hypoglycemia and overall poor health due to starvation. Eau-tis was put into a short term freshwater bath to remove the many barnacles and leeches that covered the turtle’s body. Guests can track Eau-tis’ progress at marinelife.org/eau-tis.

Additionally, the turtle is currently receiving total parenteral nutrition (TPN) treatment. This revolutionary treatment, refined by LMC, provides critical nutrients needed to save sea turtles. LMC’s TPN treatment therapy is now being used around the globe to save sea turtles, as well as endangered penguins in South America. Eau-tis will be given a satellite transmitter upon release once the turtle is medically cleared, allowing guests to digitally track the turtle’s journey.
