Unwrap The Waves

Loggerhead Marinelife Center's Unwrap the Wave Initiative allows for students and community members to get into the "spirit" of conservation by collecting their candy wrappers from Halloween and recycling them.

Monthly Donor Spotlight: Gordon Gray

Left to right: Gordon Gray and wife Patricia; daughter Diane Gray, LMC’s newest board member.

“No donor has been more influential in defining and advancing Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s mission than our good friend Gordon Gray,” said Board Member Ray Graziotto December 1, 2022, at the Circle of 100 Celebration. That evening, Graziotto announced the renaming of this generous group – The Gordon Gray Circle of 100.

“We wish to honor Gordon’s vision, drive, and belief that Loggerhead Marinelife Center can become a global force in ocean conservation through research and rehabilitation of sea turtles,” noted Graziotto.

As a board member and generous donor, Gordon always asked the right questions and pushed us to think more boldly, Graziotto told the audience.  “Gordon would ask, ‘What good is rehabilitating sea turtles if the ocean ecosystem is on the precipice of collapse? Why teach about ocean plastic threats if parts of the world still use the ocean as a garbage dump? What good are stringent fishing regulations here if 100 million sharks a year are murdered for shark fin soup?’ ”

Gordon, now Board Member Emeritus, continues to inspire. Each day our programming in the Gordon and Patricia Gray Auditorium is designed to reach and teach the next generation of ocean stewards.

The LMC staff, board and volunteers thank Gordon and his wife Pat for their steadfast support and guiding vision.
