Presented by Manatee Lagoon – An FPL Eco-Discovery Center

The Ninth Annual Go Blue Awards Luncheon, featuring Brian Skerry as special guest & keynote speaker, will recognize businesses, non-profits and individuals who have promoted, implemented, or contributed to a “Blue” lifestyle of marine conservation. Awards will be given to those who are leading the way in raising awareness and have made significant contributions to improve and protect our oceans, beaches and wildlife. WPTV News Channel 5 Meteorologist, Glenn Glazer will once again serve as the introductory host for this year’s event.

This year’s luncheon keynote speaker is Brian Skerry. An award-winning photographer, Brian is praised worldwide for his aesthetic sense as well as his journalistic drive for relevance. His uniquely-creative images tell stories that not only celebrate the mystery and beauty of the sea, but also help bring attention to the large number of issues that endanger our oceans and its inhabitants.

For National Geographic Magazine, Brian has covered a wide range of stories, from the harp seal’s struggle to survive in frozen waters to the alarming decrease in the world’s fisheries, both cover stories.  Other NGM features have focused on subjects such as the planet’s last remaining pristine coral reefs, the plight of the right whale, sharks of the Bahamas, marine reserves, sea turtles and squid. His cover story in the February 2017 issue of NGM, focuses on protecting special underwater ecosystems in US waters. During his coverage for this story Brian produced the first images of a US President underwater. He is currently at work on his 28th story for NGM.
