Unwrap The Waves

Loggerhead Marinelife Center's Unwrap the Wave Initiative allows for students and community members to get into the "spirit" of conservation by collecting their candy wrappers from Halloween and recycling them.

Summer, Staycations and Sea Turtles – Oh my!

Jealous of your neighbor who’s going on a Mediterranean cruise? Wishing you were on a road trip to California? Sometimes, summertime ushers in more wanderlust or free time than we know what to do with. The best cure for the summertime blues? A trip to Loggerhead Marinelife Center! With a wide variety of public programs, LMC offers something for everyone. To help you plan, we’ve put together a list of a few special programs this summer that make for a perfect stay-cation!

Beach Biologist Walks
This new program offers guests the chance to learn about LMC’s research department. Permitted by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, a staff member will lead guests onto Juno or Tequesta beaches and discuss sea turtles’ nesting and hatching processes. Guests also may witness a nest excavation and create data sheets to take home as a memento. Please remember to pre-register online to reserve your spot, as they fill up quickly!

When: Wednesday, Friday and Sundays at 7 a.m.; August through September
Cost: $12/person; $10/person for LMC members. Walk-ins are a flat rate of $15.

Our three sessions are Explore Florida, Turtle Adventures and Field Experiences.

Evening Turtle Walks
Turtle Walks are back! This program is among our most unique, as it offers guests the once-in-a-lifetime chance to learn about and watch the sea turtle nesting and egg-laying process. Experienced LMC scouts will patrol our designated section of Juno Beach while guests enjoy a presentation on the plight of sea turtles and a behind-the-scenes tour of the facility to meet our sea turtle patients. Once scouts spot a loggerhead sea turtle in her egg-laying process, guests will head to the beach to witness the experience. Please remember to pre-register online, as spots fill up quickly!

When: Wednesday through Saturday from 9 p.m. to midnight at latest; June and July
How much: Turtle walks are $17/person; $12/person for LMC members. Walks in are a flat rate of $20.

During this program, guests will witness newly-hatched sea turtles take their first crawl to the Big Blue. You’ll learn about hatchlings’ strengths and challenges, tour our outdoor sea turtle recovery beds, and join permitted LMC staff members as they release the newest hatchlings back to sea.

When: Every Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m.
How much: $17/person; $12/person for LMC members.
