Issue: Chronic Debilitation
Bailey is an adult male loggerhead sea turtle patient that was found at FPL’s St. Lucie site. The turtle is missing its right front flipper due to an unknown trauma. Bailey’s bloodwork on arrival indicates anemia and hypoglycemia. Radiographs also revealed an intestinal impaction with a large amount of crab shells. Bailey is underweight and in poor health overall due to chronic debilitation. The turtle was put into freshwater to remove the barnacles, leeches, and other epibiota that covered his body. Bailey is receiving fluids and antibiotics, and will be closely monitored by hospital staff with routine bloodwork as he is being treated.
PROGRESS KEY:
This turtle is progressing well and responding to therapy as desired.
There is a minor issue that we are working to resolve.

PROGRESS NOTES:
02/27/2020 - Bailey was released on February 25 from Loggerhead Park.
02/20/2020 - Bailey’s packed cell volume is up to 31%. Bailey was tagged today for eventual release.
02/13/2020 - Bailey's packed cell volume is up to 28%.
02/06/2020 - Bailey's packed cell volume is up to 27% (goal 30%).
01/30/2020 - Bailey's white cell count is remaining normal without treatment.
01/23/2020 - Bailey's packed cell volume began to improve immediately after iron injections were started. It is now up to 24%.
01/16/2020 -Bailey's packed cell volume did not improve this week, so the turtle was started on iron injections.
01/09/2020 -Bailey's packed cell volume did not improve this week, so the turtle was started on iron injections.
01/02/2020 -Bailey's packed cell volume has quit improving. We may have to start the turtle on iron injections soon.
12/26/2019 -Bailey's white cell count is remaining normal since being taken off medications.
12/19/2019 -Bailey has been taken off all antibiotics.
12/12/2019 - Bailey's white cell count is remaining normal.
12/05/2019 -Bailey's white cell count is remaining normal.
11/27/2019 - Bailey's white cell count is now down to normal.
11/21/2019 - Bailey's white cell count is coming back down with the new treatment.
11/14/2019 - Bailey's white cell count has gone up somewhat, so the treatment regimen has been changed.
11/07/2019 -Bailey's white cell count is remaining normal, but we have not seen a dramatic improvement in the anemia.
10/31/2019 -Bailey's medication has been reduced.
10/24/2019 -Bailey's white cell count is remaining normal.
10/17/2019 -Bailey is now beginning to respond to the anemia treatment.
10/10/2019 -Bailey has been passing large amounts of crab parts and is eating well.
