ADMISSION NOTE:

Crunch is a juvenile green sea turtle that was captured in a cast net near a dock in Sandsprit Park. The turtle is missing a small section of the carapace and plastron on the left side. In addition, there is one straight line gash in the plastron and another fracture, splitting the nuchal scute in half. The wounds are not fresh and are possibly from a boat strike. Crunch was given fluids and antibiotics. The turtle was placed in shallow water and will be monitored closely.

PROGRESS KEY:

 This turtle is progressing well and responding to therapy as desired.

There is a minor issue that we are working to resolve.

PROGRESS NOTES:

02/23/2018 –   Crunch was released on 2/21 from Coral Cove Park.

02/14/2018 –  Crunch is now off all antibiotics.

02/07/2018 –  The white cell count is approaching normal.

01/31/2018 –  Crunch’s white cell count has increased, so the turtle was placed back on antibiotics.

01/10/2018 –  Due to an increasing white cell count, the treatment plan has been modified.

01/03/2018 –  Crunch is now large enough to get flipper tags. They were placed on the turtle this week.

12/27/2017 –  Crunch has been taken off all medications and is doing well.

12/13/2017 –  Crunch has been taken off all but one medication and seems to be improving.

12/07/2017 –

11/29/2017 –  Crunch’s most recent bloodwork indicates that the white cell count is within normal limits. Antibiotics will likely be discontinued next week.

10/25/2017 –  Crunch’s white blood cell count has increased. Antibiotics have been changed.

09/19/2017 –  Crunch did well during transportation and ate aggressively while at Georgia Aquarium. Crunch is adjusting well to being back at LMC.

09/17/2017 – Our patients have returned home! We are so thankful for the Georgia Aquarium for taking in our patients during this storm.

09/07/2017 – All of our sea turtle patients have evacuated to the Georgia Aquarium due to Hurricane Irma. They will remain there with a member of our staff until it is safe to return. For all of our preparation for Hurricane Irma visit HERE.

07/05/2017 –  The white cell count has increased again after nearly approaching normal. The antibiotics have been modified.

05/31/2017 –All topical treatments have been discontinued. The wounds appear to be healed. The turtle was tagged for eventual release.

05/03/2017 –Crunch has been having a persistent elevated white cell count. The treatment plan has been modified accordingly.

04/06/2017 –The wounds are healing and the turtle’s appetite is excellent.
