ADMISSION NOTE:
Gru is a subadult loggerhead that was hooked by a fisherman at the Juno Beach Pier. The turtle arrived with two small hooks in the base of its right front flipper, and one larger hook in the mouth. Gru was lethargic, debilitated, and hypoglycemic. The turtle will be placed on fluids and antibiotics as prescribed.
Progress Notes:
1/8/2016 – Gru was released on December 29, 2015!
12/17/2015 – Gru has been taken off all medication and will likely be ready for release in the next couple of weeks.
11/30/2015 – Gru’s white cell count remains normal. We plan to discontinue antibiotics if it remains normal next week.
11/9/2015 – Gru’s white cell count is normal, and the turtle is doing very well overall. The anemia is slowly resolving.
10/26/15 – Gru continues to be off of antibiotics, but is remaining on a calcium supplement for his carapace. The turtle also remains on an Iron supplement as the amount of red blood cells are slowly increasing to a more normal level.
10/8/15 – Gru’s white count is within normal range and all antibiotics have been discontinued. Other treatments continue but the turtle is doing well overall.
9/7/15 – Gru has been responding well to treatments. Antiparasitic medications were administered. Overall Gru has been improving.
