ADMISSION NOTE:

This is a very young juvenile green sea turtle. Normally this size turtle would be found in the deeper ocean regions, several miles off shore. Minion was found washed onto the beach at Blowing Rocks Beach. The initial radiographs show a possible intestinal impaction. There were several lesions on the carapace and plastron. The carapace is also covered in a fungal infection. We are treating the shell and skin lesion with medication and administering antibiotics. So far the turtle has not produced a normal amount of feces. We are monitoring closely.

PROGRESS NOTES:

3/14/2016 – Minion was privately released on March 14 from Ocean Bay Beach in St. Lucie County.

2/24/2016 – Minion’s bloodwork has been within normal limits and all medications were stopped on February 22nd.

2/1/2016 – Due to a gradually increasing white count, an additional oral antibiotic has been added to the treatment regimen.

1/8/2016 – Minion has been started on another antibiotic regimen. This antibiotic is the same one that worked well with Shertz.

12/17/2015  Minion’s white cell count did not stay down, so a new antibiotic has been started.

11/30/2015  Minion’s antibiotic regimen has been changed, and the white cell count has decreased.  Continued monitoring will occur.

11/01/2015  Minion’s white cell count is showing signs of improvement.  The turtle continues to receive antibiotics

10/26/2015  Minion continues to be on an antibiotic regime as the white blood cell number remains high.  The turtle is eating well.

10/8/2015  Minion has had a slightly elevated white count and continues to receive antibiotics for that.  The turtle is doing well.

9/7/2015  A fungus was cultured from Minion’s carapace and is continuing to be treated for this issue. Minion is responding very well to treatment.
