ADMISSION NOTE:

Mykonos is a juvenile green sea turtle that was found in the St. Lucie Power Plant Intake Canal. The turtle has suffered trauma to its carapace, causing damage to the spine. Mykonos’ wound is being treated using a V.A.C. therapy system that creates negative pressure to promote healing of the fractures to the carapace. Mykonos is placed in the water for 30 minutes a day to eat. The turtle has been eating well.

PROGRESS KEY:

 This turtle is progressing well and responding to therapy as desired.

There is a minor issue that we are working to resolve.

PROGRESS NOTES:

03/22/2018 –  Mykonos was released at Walton Rocks Beach on 3/20/18.

03/14/2018 –

03/09/2018 –  Mykonos’ bloodwork remains within normal limits. All antibiotics have been discontinued.

03/01/2018 –  Mykono’s white cell count is staying down. We are waiting for one more normal bloodwork before discontinuing all antibiotics.

02/23/2018 –

02/14/2018 –

02/07/2018 –  Mykonos has been reduced to one antibiotic.

01/31/2018 –  Mykonos is continuing to receive treatment and is doing fairly well.

01/10/2018 –  Due to an increasing white cell count, the treatment plan has been modified.

01/03/2018 –

12/27/2017 –  Mykonos appears to be healing very well.

12/20/2017 –

12/13/2017 –

12/07/2017 –  The turtle is doing very well without the V.A.C and in the water.

11/29/2017 –  V.A.C therapy has been discontinued and the turtle is now in the water full-time. The wound appears to be healing well.

11/22/2017 –   The turtle is continuing to progress.

11/15/2017 –  Mykonos is eating better and white blood cell count is dropping, indicating that the treatment is working.

11/08/2017 –  The turtle’s appetite has decreased, most likely due to oral medications. The turtle is still on VAC therapy and is continuing to fight off an infection.

11/01/2017 –  Turtle is undergoing VAC therapy and dealing with internal infections. Appetite is good.

10/25/2017 –  V.A.C therapy in continuing. The turtle is eating well when places in the water twice daily for feedings.
