Issue: Unintentional Hook

Polina is a juvenile green sea turtle patient that was unintentionally hooked by a fisherman at Cove Road Park in Stuart. The hook was surgically removed from the turtle’s esophagus upon arrival. Polina is also defecating pieces of monofilament fishing line along with other plastic debris. Polina will receive antibiotics and be monitored closely as the turtle recovers. The barnacles were also removed upon arrival.

PROGRESS KEY:

This turtle is progressing well and responding to therapy as desired.

There is a minor issue that we are working to resolve.

05/22/2020 -Polina was released at Walton Rocks!

05/15/2020 -Polina has been medically cleared and is scheduled for release next week.

05/08/2020 -Polina's white cell count is remaining normal and all antibiotics have been discontinued.

05/01/2020 -Polina's white cell count is remaining normal on reduced antibiotics.

04/24/2020 -Polina's antibiotics have been reduced.

04/17/2020 -Polina's white blood cell count is remaining normal and will likely be taken off all medication soon.

04/09/2020 -Polina's white blood cell count is back to normal.

03/26/2020 -Polina's white blood cell count is remaining normal. Antibiotics may be discontinued soon.

03/19/2020 -Polina's white blood cell count is down to normal.

03/12/2020 -Polina's white blood cell count is continuing to go up and skin lesions are developing, so a skin biopsy and culture were taken today.

03/05/2020 -Polina's white blood cell count started going up, so a new antibiotic has been added.

02/27/2020 - Polina’s white blood cell count is approaching normal.

02/20/2020 - Polina’s white blood cell count has continued dropping and the turtle has begun to eat well.
