Sartore is a subadult male loggerhead sea turtle patient that was found at FPL’s St. Lucie site. The patient’s bloodwork on arrival indicates anemia and hypoglycemia, and radiographs revealed an intestinal impaction of crab shells. The turtle is underweight and in poor health overall due to chronic debilitation. Sartore is receiving fluids and antibiotics, and will be closely monitored by hospital staff with routine bloodwork as he is being treated. Sartore is named after 2020 Go Blue Awards keynote speaker, Joel Sartore.
The turtle requires continued treatment but is progressing well.
Minor adjustments have been made to the turtle's treatment.
The turtle is off all medications.
02/01/2021 -Sartore’s progress has been very good over the past month. His bloodwork has almost normalized but he remains in treatment for his persistent anemia. Sartore’s prognosis remains excellent.

12/01/2020 -Sartore’s progress has been excellent this past month. He is eating well, gaining weight and his anemia continues to improve with treatment. His behavior is improving and we are overall very pleased with his progress. Sartore’s prognosis is excellent.

10/01/2020 -- Sartore’s progress has been excellent for the short period he has been in the hospital. He is now in a full tank, eating and gaining weight, and becoming more active. His anemia in stabilizing with treatment and his prognosis is excellent.
