Issue: Buoyancy

ADMISSION NOTE:

Shellton is a juvenile green sea turtle patient that was found floating in the Indian River Lagoon in Ft. Pierce. Radiographs revealed a large amount of gas throughout the intestines which is causing the turtle to float. We will monitor the buoyancy disorder and overall health of the turtle with weekly bloodwork and follow-up radiographs.

PROGRESS NOTES:

07/16/19 – We are sadden to announce that Shellton’s injuries were severe and the turtle succumbed to it’s injuries. The neocropsy revealed that the colon was completely detached internally from the cloaca, a condition for which there is not treatment, and there was severe infection in the coelom.
