Issue: Trauma

Sylvia is a subadult female loggerhead sea turtle patient that was found by biologists from Inwater Research Group at FPL’s St. Lucie site. The turtle has trauma to its left rear flipper from an unknown cause. Sylvia will receive treatment and be closely monitored by hospital staff with routine diagnostics.

Sylvia is named in honor of our 2021 Go Blue Awards Keynote Speaker, Dr. Sylvia Earle, President and Chairman of Mission Blue.

12/06/2021 -Sylvia’s left rear flipper wounds are making good progress; her topical treatments have been reduced to once weekly. The turtle has inflammation on the inside of her eyelid that is being treated daily with antibiotic opththalmic ointment.

11/08/2021 -Sylvia’s left rear flipper wounds are making good progress. She is receiving therapeutic laser and topical treatments daily, and is being treated for her anemia, which is improving.
