Issue: Buoyancy Disorder

Vlad is a juvenile green sea turtle patient that was found floating in the St. Lucie River in Stuart. The turtle has old trauma to its carapace from an unknown cause. Radiographs also revealed a large amount of gas in the turtle’s intestines. Vlad will receive fluids and antibiotics, and will be closely monitored by hospital staff as the buoyancy disorder is treated. This turtle was originally tagged and released by biologists from Inwater Research Group at FPL’s St. Lucie site on January 26, 2020

Patient requires continued treatment but is progressing well.

PROGRESS NOTES:

12/01/2020 - Vlad suddenly decompensated this week, and despite all efforts Vlad succumb to it's injuries. We have conducted a necropsy and tissues have been sent to a veterinary pathologist for further evaluation. Results are pending.
