Loggerhead Marinelife Center's Unwrap the Wave Initiative allows for students and community members to get into the "spirit" of conservation by collecting their candy wrappers from Halloween and recycling them.

Brody

About Brody

Species:

Loggerhead Sea Turtle (Caretta caretta)

Brody is an adult male loggerhead sea turtle patient that was found floating offshore of Fort Pierce entangled in fishing line. The line was wrapped around the turtle’s neck, causing a deep constriction wound. Brody also ingested the line, which was embedded into his jaw, extending into his esophagus, and trailing out  the cloaca. The entanglement was removed, and the turtle has since passed all of the line extending out of his cloaca. Radiographs revealed mild pneumonia and free air in the turtle’s coelomic cavity, possibly due to a tear in the lung. Upon arrival, Brody was put into freshwater to remove the barnacles, leeches, and other epibiota that covered his body. The turtle is receiving fluids, antibiotics, topical wound treatments, and nebulization treatments, and will be closely monitored by hospital staff as the constriction wounds, pneumonia, and buoyancy disorder are treated.
