Loggerhead Marinelife Center's Unwrap the Wave Initiative allows for students and community members to get into the "spirit" of conservation by collecting their candy wrappers from Halloween and recycling them.

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteers must be at least sixteen years of age and must work a minimum of one 3.5 hour shift per week. There is a minimum six month commitment with exception to seasonal summer positions. Sea Turtle Rehab volunteers must be at least eighteen years of age and have graduated from high school. No experience is necessary and training will be provided.

(Please Note: If you are under 16 years of age, your application will still submit, but you will be not be eligible if this requirement is not fulfilled.)

Education Positions

Education Program Assistants serve as education ambassadors by assisting with on and off-campus programming including field trips, homeschool workshops, virtual field trips, public programs, outreaches, scheduled amphitheater talks, auditorium shows, birthday parties, and more.

Requirements: Volunteers must be at least sixteen years of age and must work a minimum of one 4 hour shift per week. There is a minimum six month commitment.

Exhibit Interpreters serve as our “on the floor” education ambassadors through guest engagement and interpretations of our new exhibits including wet (aquarium), digital, and static exhibits in the Marinelife Gallery, Rinker Breezeway, Welcome Center, and Outdoor Ecosystem Tanks. Exhibit Interpreters will also engage with guests around campus using STEM Carts for biofact/object interpretation.

Requirements: Volunteers must be at least sixteen years of age and must work a minimum of one 4 hour shift per week. There is a minimum six month commitment.

Hospital Interpreters report to and are trained by the Hospital Department staff members. They serve as our education ambassadors through guest engagement and interpretation of the patients and patient care in our outside hospital.

General Positions

Animal Care volunteers assist the Animal Care and Hospital staff with the daily care of the resident animals and rehab patients. Animal Care volunteers devote a large portion of their time to cleaning tanks, food preparation, water quality testing, washing laundry, and other duties as needed. This role does not guarantee hands-on work with animals. This position requires extensive training, detailed reporting and teamwork. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older and have graduated from high school.

Requirements: Volunteers must be able to lift over 50 pounds, tolerate frequent bending, and handle the weather changes of south Florida. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or older and have graduated from high school.

Conservation Department volunteers work with staff on ongoing initiatives focused on ocean conservation and pollution prevention. Tasks include marine debris cleanups and sorting, data collection and data entry, and assisting staff with other ongoing projects. Applicants must be able to tolerate South Florida's variable weather.

Requirements: Volunteers must be at least sixteen years of age and must work a minimum of one 3.5 hour shift per week. There is a minimum six month commitment.

Guest services volunteers are the first impression of Loggerhead Marinelife Center to our visitors. Greeters welcome guests, provide information and answer questions to enhance the LMC visitor experience. If you are an outgoing individual with a passion for ocean conservation, you are a perfect fit for guest services at LMC!

Gift store volunteer staff play a key role at Loggerhead Marinelife Center. As a gift store volunteer you will provide customer service from shopping assistance, wayfinding, and answering questions to enhance the LMC visitor experience. You will also be essential in the store's inventory support, stocking, and overall gift shop appearance. If you are an outgoing individual with a passion for ocean conservation, retail and helping others, you are a perfect fit for the LMC Gift Store!

Job Description: Events Volunteers report to and are trained by the Events staff members as well as seasoned volunteers. They serve as our education ambassadors through guest engagement and interpretation of the patients and patient care in our outside hospital and Events space.

Responsibilities: Assist the Events Team in setting up, executing, and dismantling events. Help with guest registration, check-in, and providing event information. Ensure guests are directed appropriately and answer general inquiries about the event and the center. Interact with event attendees, providing a welcoming and informative experience. Engage with Guest while on the hospital floor talking with them about the Sea Turtle patients Foster a positive and engaging atmosphere, promoting the mission and goals of Loggerhead Marinelife Center. Assist with traffic flow and parking coordination, ensuring a smooth experience for guests.

Our operations team is the hard-working force behind ensuring all campus and pier events and projects run smoothly, and maintenance tasks are fulfilled. Operations volunteers provide support for staff with day-to-day tasks at LMC and the Juno Beach Pier including; but not limited to, landscaping, cleaning, painting, setting up/taking down for daily programming, and assisting with set up/take down for special events. Applicants must be able to lift over 50 pounds, tolerate frequent bending, and handle the weather changes of south Florida. Applicants must be at least 18 years or older.

Juno Beach Pier

The Juno Beach Pier offers guests 990 feet of great saltwater fishing and wonderful opportunities to enjoy the view from sunrise to sunset. The full-service pier house features snacks, a variety of fishing tackle, rental poles and bait. Juno Beach Pier Volunteers assist with the admission fees, snack shop and fishing bait purchases, cleaning and maintenance of the pier and interacting and educating visitors and anglers.

Requirements: Volunteers must be at least sixteen years of age and must work a minimum of one 2 hour shift per week. There is a minimum six month commitment.

The Responsible Pier Initiative is a first-of-its-kind program designed as a collaborative tool to work directly with anglers and fishing piers. The purpose of these efforts is to provide first-responders on fishing piers with the necessary resources to respond effectively to sea turtle injuries and strandings on or around fishing piers. As a volunteer, you'll be at the forefront of our mission, contributing to the conservation of marine ecosystems while embracing the unique charm of our local pier.

Requirements: Volunteers must be at least sixteen years of age and must work a minimum of one 4 hour shift per week. There is a minimum six month commitment.

Our Process

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with LMC! Here is what to expect in the process.

Submit Form

Fill out and submit the online volunteer application for the desired position above.

Following submission, please keep an eye on your email address entered in the application for an invitation to our group interview events.

02.

Group Interviews

Group interviews are held as stated above. Due to this, you can most often expect to hear back within a month of your submission.

At our group interview events, prospective volunteers have the opportunity to learn more about LMC, how important our volunteers are to the function of our Center, meet staff representatives from different departments, and ask questions in a group-setting.

03.

Availability & Fit

Following interviews based on applicant availability and department needs, individuals will receive invitations to our Volunteer Orientation event where more information regarding specific positions is provided. Additional training is also included on your first few shifts at the Center.

Even if a fit is not found initially, we encourage those interested to stay on our applicant list for future opportunities to attend a group interview.
