Changing Misperceptions
The Responsible Pier Initiative is a first-of-its-kind program designed as a collaborative tool to work directly with anglers and fishing piers. The purpose of these efforts is to provide first responders on fishing piers with the necessary resources to respond effectively to sea turtle injuries and strandings on or around fishing piers. Through these efforts, LMC strives to foster a healthy dialogue between anglers and conservationists surrounding best practices and methods to protect sea turtles and our ocean.
If you’re interested in bringing the RPI to a pier near you, please contact Valerie Nicole Tovar at [email protected].

Underwater Cleanups
Underwater cleanups are performed regularly at the Juno Beach Pier and partnering pier locations that are within distance. By conducting consistent underwater removal efforts, our LMC dive team prevents mass amounts of derelict fishing gear from accumulating underneath the pier, every single pound we remove reduces the risk of entanglement that fishing line poses to marine life.
Since beginning our removal efforts, the team has removed over 871.90 miles of monofilament from underneath the Juno Beach Pier and partnering pier location.
That is enough to wrap around the Juno Beach Pier 4,645 times!
