Unwrap The Waves

Loggerhead Marinelife Center's Unwrap the Wave Initiative allows for students and community members to get into the "spirit" of conservation by collecting their candy wrappers from Halloween and recycling them.

Sea turtle named after beloved baseball manager to be released* from Juno Beach Tuesday morning

WHO: Loggerhead Marinelife Center of Juno Beach (LMC)

WHAT: Loggerhead Marinelife Center will release Dusty, a sub-adult loggerhead from Loggerhead Park in Juno Beach on Tuesday, July 18, at 10:30 a.m.

Dusty the sea turtle was named after Dusty Baker, manager of the Washington Nationals, which holds spring training at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches. Mr. Baker also visited “Dusty” the turtle last March at LMC. We are grateful for his support of sea turtle and ocean conservation.

Dusty the sea turtle was found floating offshore in St. Lucie County last February. Initial bloodwork showed anemia, hypoglycemia and overall poor health due to starvation. Hospital staff administered fluids, parenteral nutrition and antibiotics, and placed the turtle in freshwater to remove barnacles and leeches that covered most of the body. Now, the turtle is medically cleared for release into its ocean home.

WHEN: Tuesday, July 18 at 10:30 a.m.; Pre-release procedures starting at 10 a.m.

WHERE:   Loggerhead Marinelife Center, 14200 U.S. Highway One, Juno Beach, FL 33408
