The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill began one year ago today. During the spill and its aftermath, Loggerhead Marinelife Center received Secondary Facility status, charged with caring for sea turtles that may be affected by the disaster should a need arise. We received an out pour of support during that time from people who share a love for the world’s oceans and marine life. Everyone wanted to know what they could do to help.
For many of you, that same drive to make a difference still exists. We have some suggestions below for ways you can join us in our mission to promote conservation of Florida’s coastal ecosystems with a special focus on threatened and endangered sea turtles.
1. Attend our Earth Day Celebration from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Friday to learn how you can become better at Reducing, Reusing, and Recycling
2. Become a Loggerhead Marinelife Center volunteer. It’s as easy as filling out an online application and giving just 3.5 hours of your time each week.
3. Become a member. Members of the center receive all kinds of benefits, including program, summer camp and birthday party discounts.
4. Attend a beach clean up. Mark your calendar now for the next cleanup on May 21st.
5. Make a donation to the center. With a click of the mouse, you can make a difference in the lives of the sea turtles we treat each year.
