About Captain

Species:

Subadult Loggerhead (Caretta caretta) (CC25-1235)

In 2010, Captain was struck by a boat, this injury left Captain with limited movement of her rear flippers, and additionally, buoyancy issues. She was taken to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center for her initial rehabilitation. After three years of rehabilitation, Captain was released. Unfortunately, after about a month, Captain washed back ashore near St. Augustine, FL. Captain was sent back to GSTC for further rehabilitation. Captain remained at the GSTC for another 4 months, then transferred to Mote Marine Laboratory to see her ability to dive to greater depths. It was determined she could not be released. We are holding her while maintenance is performed on her exhibit.
