Professional Development Opportunities
Loggerhead Marinelife Center offers different professional development opportunities based on the needs of the individual school or group. Professional development programs hosted by LMC can be conducted at our campus in Juno Beach, or at your institution, and are scheduled on school district calendar PDD days. Opportunities include:
- Aquatic Species Collection Workshop (ASCW): This is a professional development opportunity available to certified teachers and eligible employees of educational centers hosted by Loggerhead Marinelife Center through partnership with the Florida Marine Science Educators Association (FMSEA) and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). The workshop objective is to promote best practices in collection of aquatic organisms for educational activities. Successful completion of this workshop grants you a FMSEA ASCW certificate that allows the collection of specified numbers of certain species for educational purposes, otherwise PROHIBITED by the FWC and state regulations. For more information on the ASCW, please visit: https://sites.google.com/a/fmsea.org/welcome/events/workshop
- Instructor Guidance of LMC Curricula: Our marine science curricula is designed to be educatorfriendly without needing prior knowledge of marine science, however, LMC educators are happy to add their guidance. Through this professional development opportunity, an LMC education staff member will walk your teachers through one of our marine science lesson plans, giving you tips and tricks on how to engage your students in this content.
- Sea Turtles 101 (LMC campus experience): The Sea Turtles 101 Professional Development program welcomes educators to The Sea Turtle Hospital at Loggerhead Marinelife Center for biologist-led lessons on sea turtle biology, research, and ocean conservation. This program also includes a guided tour of our Outdoor Sea Turtle Hospital to meet our current patients.
