Unwrap The Waves

Loggerhead Marinelife Center's Unwrap the Wave Initiative allows for students and community members to get into the "spirit" of conservation by collecting their candy wrappers from Halloween and recycling them.

LMC Acquires New Hospital Equipment Thanks To Funding by Sea Turtle License Plate Grant Program

Juno Beach, FL – For over three decades, LMC has been committed to the rehabilitation of sick and injured sea turtles. LMC’s advanced hospital, founded by The Gordon & Patricia Gray Family, is one of the leading facilities in the state and a prime resource for sea turtle rehabilitation. It features a surgical suite, upgraded x-ray room, blood work lab, endoscope, and ultrasound – allowing numerous sea turtles to be examined and treated at LMC.

A new hoist was purchased and installed on tank 20-1 in our outdoor hospital to allow larger sea turtles to enjoy this deep dive tank while building strength for their eventual release. The funds for the hoist were part of a generous grant from the Sea Turtle License Plate Grant Program (STGP). Additionally, STGP provided funds for equipment necessary to analyze blood from sea turtles to determine their state of health. These cartridges are used daily in saving the lives of sea turtles. We could not be more appreciative for the funds provided through the Sea Turtle Grants Program that allows us to continue to advance our important mission.

About Sea Turtle Grants Program:

Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s GPS equipment was partially funded through a grant awarded by the Sea Turtle Grants Program, which is funded from proceeds from the sale of the Florida Sea Turtle License Plate. The Sea Turtle Specialty License Plate is the primary source of funding for Florida’s Marine Turtle Protection Program. It also supports the Sea Turtle Grants Program, which has awarded nearly $7 million in grants for research, education and conservation programs since 2001 to benefit sea turtles in Florida. By purchasing a Sea Turtle Specialty License Plate for your vehicle for only $23 a year, you are providing critical financial support for the Sea Turtle Grants Program and the state’s Marine Turtle Protection Program every time you drive.
