About Tracking Eleanor

Species:

Loggerhead

Eleanor is a loggerhead turtle that was satellite tagged on the nesting beaches adjacent to LMC on April 23, 2024. Eleanor had evidence of an old boat strike on her carapace and was missing a small portion of a hind limb likely due to shark predation. Both injuries had healed on their own and Eleanor was otherwise healthy. In honor of LMC’s 40th year, Eleanor was named in honor of LMC’s founder, Eleanor Fletcher.

This project was funded in part by a grant awarded from the Sea Turtle Grants Program. The Sea turtle Grants Program is funded from proceeds from the sale of the Florida Sea Turtle License Plate. Learn more at helpingseaturtles.org.
