Dan was found washed up on the beach at Singer Island. This turtle is hypoglycemic, underweight and lethargic. Fluids mixed with dextrose were given subcutaneously and the glucose has stabilized. The turtle is already eating well and will continue to receive antibiotics and fluids as we closely monitor.
PROGRESS NOTES:
5/19/2016 – Dan was released on May 5th from Loggerhead Park.
4/28/2016 – Dan has been cleared for release next week.
4/2/2016 – Dan was treated for all internal parasites and has been tagged in preparation for eventual release. The turtle has been taken off all medications and we are waiting for the carapace to become more firm prior to release.
2/24/2016 – Dan continues to improve and will be treated for internal parasites within the next few days.
2/1/2016 – Follow up radiographs showed free air in the coelomic cavity as well as in the intestines. We removed 3.4 liters of air and then five days later ¾ of a liter of air was removed. Dan no longer has a floatation problem and is now eating well. We are still waiting for the bone marrow to begin to fully respond to resolve the anemia.
