Our sea turtle patient, "Honda" is named in honor of The Honda Classic, the largest golf event in Palm Beach County. The best golfers in the world descend upon PGA National Resort & Spa each February to play for the Honda Classic's Waterford Trophy and the resort welcomes thousands of spectators who get to enjoy some of the best golf in the world. The Honda Classic has created the Honda Classic Cares Foundation which over the years has reinvested profits from this exceptional event to help positively impact the lives of children in our community. Over 100 local nonprofit organizations are supported by the Honda Classic Cares Foundation. The Honda Classic Cares underwrites a portion of educational programming here at Loggerhead Marinelife Center. We are honored to partner with the Honda Classic Cares Foundation to invest in the education of our children within our community.

ADMISSION NOTE:

Honda, an adult male loggerhead sea turtle patient, was found in the St. Lucie Power Plant intake canal. He is underweight and has an active infection. Bloodwork is being done weekly as we treat with antibiotics and subcutaneous fluids.

PROGRESS KEY:

 This turtle is progressing well and responding to therapy as desired.

There is a minor issue that we are working to resolve.

07/18/2018 -  The erythropoietin used on Honda had no effect on its bone marrow production.

07/11/2018 - Still no change so far from erythropoietin injection.

06/27/2018 -  Honda's anemia seems to have plateaued. We have started the turtle on erythropoietin hormone to determine if it will increase red blood cell production.

06/07/2018 -  Honda completed its treatment for parasites this week.

05/30/2018 -  Honda's anemia continues to improve.

05/24/2018 -  Honda's anemia is responding to treatment and the turtle will be treated with anti-parasitic medication.

05/16/2018 -  Honda is beginning to show signs of bone marrow response.
