\"Today\" is an adult female green turtle who was named after NBC\'s Today Show. The turtle was found by Inwater Research Group biologists on September 18, 2019 with monofilament line emerging from her cloaca. As a result, the turtle was brought to The Sea Turtle Hospital at LMC. The patient successfully passed the line overnight in our hospital. "Today" was otherwise healthy, so the 265 lbs. turtle was released in partnership with NBC's Today Show on #TurtleTuesday September 24th from Juno Beach, FL.

*Note: Although at points it may appear as though Today is tracking on land, this is just associated with normal errors in the Argos satellite system. Rest assured, the turtle is swimming in the ocean.

The turtle successfully passed the line overnight in our hospital. Today was otherwise healthy, so the 265 lbs. turtle was cleared for release.

Update 11/25/2019
Today is still located off of Elliott Key in Biscayne National Park.

Update 11/05/19
When Today was released, the turtle headed straight south, hugging our South Florida coastline. Today made it to Biscayne Bay on Sept 29, just three days after release. The turtle has stayed in that area within Biscayne Bay National Park since then. Biscayne Bay is a known foraging ground for green turtles so is not surprising that Today, a female green sea turtle, has taken up residence in the area. Today is swimming in approximately 13 meters of water and has been making short, shallow foraging dives as well as longer, deeper resting dives to the seafloor. This suggests that Today is behaving normally since release.

Today is still located off of Elliott Key in Biscayne National Park.

Since her release, Today has traveled south along the coastline. Today is currently located off of Elliott Key in Biscayne National Park.

Today was returned to her ocean home from the beach behind LMC today.
