About Tracking Chip Block

Species:

Dermochelys coriacea (Leatherback Sea Turtle)

Chip Block is a “neophyte” in 2022, meaning that she was first observed and tagged in 2022. Based on her circumference, we estimate that Chip Block weighed ~650 lbs during our encounter with her in June, indicating that she is one of our smaller leatherbacks. She was satellite tagged in an effort to update foraging locations for leatherbacks that nest in Florida.

This project was funded in part by a grant awarded from the Sea Turtle Grants Program. The Sea turtle Grants Program is funded from proceeds from the sale of the Florida Sea Turtle License Plate. Learn more at helpingseaturtles.org.
