Hike 2O Guided 3-day, 2-night Excursion

In its first year, Hike2O will set foot on the ocean to lake hiking trail section of the Florida Trail in partnership with the Florida Trail Association. Participants will join trail experts from the Florida Trail Association – Loxahatchee Chapter and LMC staff biologists as they are guided through some of the most iconic ecosystems of South Florida.

The three-day, 2-night backcountry benefit begins on Friday, January 24, 2020, where registered participants will meet at the Everglades Youth Conservation Camp (EYCC) before boarding a complimentary shuttle to the trailheads and begin the challenge. The hike will support marine conservation and education outreach to non-coastal schools across South Florida and promote environmental stewardship of Florida’s fresh and saltwater systems.

Capacity is limited to 60 in-person hikers, virtual registration is unlimited. Registration is $125 for full event hikers and $65 for virtual day hikers. Participants must be 18 years or older to register for full event hikers.


ArtSEA Kids Paint Class

ArtSEA Kids is offered Thursday's at 10:30 a.m. and designed to introduce basic sea turtle conservation and biology to young children. The program begins with a brief ocean-themed story and includes a hands-on biofact lesson following a painting activity. Participants have an opportunity to take home their painted ceramic turtles and their new sea turtle knowledge. Register for your desired date on our calendar.

Hatchling Tales

Our Hatchling Tales program is geared towards toddlers with a natural curiosity for marine life and sea turtles. In this free, ocean-inspired program, children will enjoy an ocean-themed story coupled with a themed craft to create and take home. This program is designed to cater to young families in the community by offering a new story and craft each session, encouraging frequent visits and support. Kids Fishing Program

Participants will learn basic techniques for fishing from both a beach and a fishing pier including knot tying, casting, species identification, and proper release protocols. In addition to fishing skills, participants will learn to be ethical anglers and discover how to reduce their impact on marine life including sea turtles and shore birds. Living Beaches

Join Loggerhead Marinelife Center staff and discover just how alive our beaches are with an interactive presentation and backyard beach expedition. Over this hour-long course, we will discuss the common residents of Florida’s coastal ecosystems and discover how these curious creatures make their long journey from the ocean to our beautiful beaches. Comfortable walking shoes are strongly suggested, as we will be walking in soft, loose sand. Register at your desired on our calendar.

Hammock Hikes

Led by an experienced naturalist, our hammock hikes are an excursion through some of Florida’s most precious habitat. Navigating through the rare coastal hammock and natural dune systems, you will learn the birds in the trees all the way to the grains of sand on the beach. 55 & Bolder: Health, Wellness & Science

55 & Bolder is a 1-hour program that covers topics that focus on human health along with sea turtle related topics. In partnership with St. Mary’s Medical Center, physicians and experienced staff will present on topics such as fall prevention, nutrition, emergencies, and more! Each session will end with an introduction into sea turtle medicine relating to the various topics. Science education for 55+ inspires curiosity and engagement, drawing connections to the natural world through lifelong learning. Every lecture provides attendees with an opportunity to learn about a new topic over the eight sessions. Enjoy food and beverages as well as 10% off in LMC’s Gift Store for seniors on 55 & Bolder days!

Jr. Veterinarian Lab

Junior Veterinary Lab accommodates up to 10 children in a 30 minute program, educating children on the process of sea turtle rescue to release. The Jr. Vets come to the aid of a green sea turtle replica and Dr. Logger teaches the group about common injuries and illnesses that affect these endangered animals. Register at desired date on calendar

Wild Child

Bring out your child’s inner WILD in our Wild Child program every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. This 30-minute program will introduce your child to the colors, textures, sights and sounds of the ocean as we adventure into our local beach-side park to discover nature.
