Workshop Descriptions

ECOSYSTEMS AND ADAPTATIONS

Students will learn about different marine ecosystems and then explore Coral Cove Park and all of the amazing creatures that call it home! Students will investigate how animals and plants learn to adapt to a new and changing environment.

KAYAK ADVENTURE

Explore the mangrove ecosystem by kayak! Students will be led on a naturalist excursion of the mangrove ecosystem by kayaking through the habitat to learn about the importance of the mangrove ecosystem and what animals depend on this habitat for survival. Tandem kayaks for student use provided by LMC.

THE INS AND OUTS OF SQUID

Students will be able to learn about squid species. We will learn more about one of the species we use as food for our turtles and other ambassador animals at our facility. After the presentation, students will be able to dissect inshore squid species that can be found in the water here in Florida.

CHANGING SHORLINE INVESTIGATORS

Students will learn about how natural events and human made events change our shoreline and the beaches that we heavily rely on in Florida. We will then head out to the beach and measure the profile of our beach and graph how it is changing.
